driving down the road normally, sometimes the speedometer will lay flat not working..then when on the highway - it may work but as soon as i give the car more throttle..its dies..then i let off the gas...it bounces back up..?? I rarely drive it, but it was fine before driving through the rain for a couple hours the other day.. any suggestions on what it is..? could the speedometer impulse sensor need to be replaced? Hope it doesn't have anything to do with the cluster..thanks a lot everyone

Replace the speedo or the cluster - either one will work. Everyone who had the same problem will end up doing so, and there is no simple fix - i have 3 clusters for that same reason lying around.

Check the wires at the diff where the speed sensor is. One (or both) of the wires to the connector are worn, and as soon as you touch one it will break. There is a repair kit for it, but I don't know the part number. It was installed by a local mechanic for me when I was getting a track inspection.
What's happening is that when you accelerate or decelerate the diff is twisting a little, and wiggling the nearly-broken wire.

Kit? I need one. Anyone have a part number?
