Title: Got my trunk open
Post by: pbgd3skier on March 18, 2008, 01:50:22 PM
Well as I posted before my trunk lock cylinder became seized in the locked posistion.  No matter how much penetrant I applied it would not turn.

So 1st step, getting the trunk open.  As mentioned in other threads there is a knock out panel behind the seat that if you remove the lower portion of the seat, remove the two 10mm bolts for the back rest of the seat, and lift the backrest up and out, then the panel is visible, beat this out where it is attached around the edges.  Then if you look into the trunk you will see that the area of the lock is at the far rear, if yours has any sort of cover that will need to be removed, mine is missing so no problems there.

I used two 3' long extensions to extend  my 10mm socket so that I could sit in the back seat and remove the necessary bolts (there are 3 10 mm, you only need to remove the bottom two)

With those detached the lock itself will be free from the back of the car, and only retained by the power lock actuator, either push the linkage out of the plastic bushing, or just reach behind and push on the portion of the lock that releases the trunk lid.

Now I had the part in hand, still not sure what's broken in it, really don't care, I went down to the local dealership and placed an order for a keyed cylinder, it'll take a week.

So I decided to rig a way to use the old lock (which pushes in but does not turn) in order to plug the hole, keep the trunk closed, and well, appear not broken into.

So I took the lock cylinder down to the hardware store, and pryed the E clip off the back then attached a large washer and several small washers, followed by the E-clip.  When reinstalled and pushed inwards this washer engages the trunk mechanism and opens the lid.  No problems, doesn't lock, but the car still does.  Do not park in bad neighborhoods I believe goes w/o saying.

But I'm on the road to a functioning trunk yet again.  Now for the Omega Keyless entry mod.
