Title: LSD Rebuilding
Post by: Paul Strefling on March 16, 2008, 12:46:10 PM
Are there any kits for the small case LSDs, such as this one from bimmerword?
http://store.bimmerworld.com/shared/StoreFront/default.asp?CS=bimmerworl&StoreType=BtoC&Count1=981228053&Count2=898368477&Keyword=lsd&Target=products.asp (http://store.bimmerworld.com/shared/StoreFront/default.asp?CS=bimmerworl&StoreType=BtoC&Count1=981228053&Count2=898368477&Keyword=lsd&Target=products.asp)

Thanks

The link just goes to the storefront. Are you trying to put in new seals/bearings or are you trying to change out the ratio?

This link should do the trick:

http://store.bimmerworld.com/shared/StoreFront/product_detail.asp?RowID=584&CS=bimmerworl&All= (http://store.bimmerworld.com/shared/StoreFront/product_detail.asp?RowID=584&CS=bimmerworl&All=)

I am actually looking to replace all wear components in the diff, bearings, clutches, etc.  I actually still need to locate one...

The clutches I don't think I've ever seen those for the e30 diff's. Don't even think I've seen  a rebuild kit for the small case either.

Here is a link to a tear down of what I believe is a medium case LSD:
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=296-13633-5-ND (http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=296-13633-5-ND)

If there is no rebuild kit for the small case LSD then I assume I should install the medium case.

If you can find a reasonably priced med. case 4.10, go for it. They are pretty tough to find, though. Try calling BMA (BMAparts.com). They seem to be able to find anything.
