Sorry guys but the M42 had to make way for srsbisnss.

!
nice!
i wish i could do srsbisnss too
-
TRAITOR!!! Haha that is srsbisnss indeed, what are you going to do with the M42? I may be interested.
-
Serious indeed! It's gonna be killer with the M-Tech II pieces. What are you using for the transmission and driveline?
-
You can still hang out if with the cool kids if you want.
As long as you have 4 valves/ cylinder in an e30 you are cool in my book.
-
Big Pimpin!
-
M42 is already spoken for, none of you guys would want it it is a leaky mess.
I'm going to be using the GeTrag 240 and a 3.73 diff, should be nice :)
-
Yes.
You have a heavy front now.
Traitor.
Just kidding ;)
-
I don't have an M42 in either of my E30s either, but I still hang around here. :)
-
Nice!
How long did it take to build?
-
I bought everything about 2 weeks ago.
I started the swap last Friday, but have been stalled since that Saturday because of forum misinformation as far as clutch fitment. The flywheel I ordered on Monday STILL isn't here, despite the urgency I expressed when paying for it. I bought everything else I needed and had it 2nd dayed in for nothing while I sit around waiting for the flywheel.
All I have left to do is bolt the flywheel/clutch/pressure plate on, bolt up the trans, install driveshaft, bolt up exhaust, and fill/bleed the coolant.
-
looks like a nice unit... and 4 valves per cylinder... i guess i wont bann ya;)
-
Very nice, now you have some serious power to back up the top-notch bodywork and baller wheels ;). Are you going to be doing anything to that motor, or leaving it stock?
-
It has a LTW flywheel, underdrive pulleys, 3.5in HFM, 24lb injectors, OBDI conversion, and TMS software tuned for the mods. Ought to be plenty for now.
I started it for the first time last night. Started first turn of the key and idled beautifully. All systems seem to be working fine and its very rev happy. I need to bolt the cats/resonators on and take it out for a drive today.
-
once you drive it let us know what you think of the weight/handling differences
-
Handling as best as I can tell does not feel the least bit changed, unless I apply throttle, in which case oversteer comes quickly if discretion isn't used :)
The car is ridiculously fast, and I freaking love my car again. In 2nd gear at 2500RPM just coasting along if I go WOT it breaks the rears free and smokes them out well into 3rd gear. 195's + S52 = ROFL. They do a surprisingly good job of putting it down unless you are being outright and deliberate about stomping the pedal, at which point its expected they are going to spin.
Exhaust note is, to die for. I'm running the eBay Supersprint knockoff headers into M50 cat/resonators, with the stock e36 catback piping cut off at the e36 muffler. I have no muffler right now.. it sounds SIIIICK, but is WAY loud.

you got a breakdown of cost? i must know, doesn't have to be TOO specific ;)
-
do you have a wiring chart you wouldnt mind posting?

My costs are no where near realistic compared to what an average person would pay. I got hookups on the major items, and my bill was around $2500. Expect to pay $4k+ for all the same items.
do you have a wiring chart you wouldnt mind posting?
Here is what mine is wired by.
Easiest way to identify what connector goes to what sensor is to pull back the connectors rubber boot and observe the colors and label the connector. Repeat until all are labeled...
oil pressure sensor BRN/GRN or BRN/GRY
front coolant temperature sensor (ECU) BRN/RED BRN
rear coolant temperature sensor (Gauge Sensor) BRN/YEL BRN/VIO
crank position sensor YEL
cam position sensor YEL RED/WHT BRN/ORG
VANOS solenoid RED/WHT GRN/BLU
knock sensor, 1-3 BLK NCA DME PIN 70
knock sensor, 4-6 BLK NCA DME PIN 69
throttle position sensor (TPS) BRN BRN/BLK RED/YEL
intake air temperature (IAT) sensor BRN GRY
idle control valve (ICV) WHT/YEL RED/WHT WHT/GRN
Evaporative emissions valve BRN RED/WHT
As far as the engine wiring harness you are going to want to cut all the unnecessary bulk from the harness so you can jam pack whats left under the m42 harness cover on the wire wall.
As for the C101 connector wiring, grab the e36's equivalent connector the x20, and cut it off about 6 inches back from the x20 connector. Cut the hard plastic sheath off entirely as it will make it a bitch to pack the wires under the m42 cover.
Using this chart as a guide strip back all wires that will be reused and then tie back and tape off the several that won't.
Purchase 16-20 male wiring connectors from your local dealer, part number 61-13-1-376-191. 16 being how many you need, and 20 allowing for mistakes like accidental crushing or something.
Crimp and solder one connector on each of the wires you've identified from above. (shown here spread for soldering)

Once the soldering is done and cooled insert all the new pins into a spare engine harness side e30 c101 connector in the right pin holes as listed in the chart above.
Plug the new C101 directly into your e30's main harness.
