i am still waiting for the sunny day when i'll be able to go out and work on the car. i bought a sheet of aluminum and plan on doing a custom heat shield. i will post pictures and do a write up.. but this might take a few weeks. theres 6 weeks left of university and 3 weeks left of winter weather

Whats wrong with the stock airbox?
A cold air intake gives a cool sound, but not much if anything in terms of performance over the stock filter. You can also wash the cone filters. Thats it as far as I know.

Even if you put a heat shield, I don't see how this becomes a "cold air intake". Where is the cold air coming from? CAI by definition takes in air from outside the engine bay. Secondly, this engine is already running lean near the top end. More air isn't going to do you any good without increasing the size of the injectors. The existing airbox and filter is not a restriction on this engine. The only restriction on the intake is the muffler tube ahead of the airbox. K&N filers are garbage.

Mine gets its cold air from the same place as the standard air filter box - through the front grill. It just gets more of it now as the standard setup has a shield with a small diameter hole directing air to the air filter box via a small diameter tube... like so

Where as the new setup is completely open to the cold air coming into it....

Having said that - there is no performance difference except for the wonderful induction noise. :)
It also makes more room in the enginebay and tidies things up a bit.

Thanks for this, have it some more power increase on stock engine to put larger injectors and what size.

thats some really nice work!! the CAI probably doesn't give any more power but it sure makes your engine bay look nicer!

i tought i'd make one like that myself then looked at my setup and saw the ABS was in the way... can i relocate it somehow ?

sure you can relocate the abs...!!but dont,please...!i think it doesnt matter if the abs is in the heatshield too or not... its not a ram-air system.

i'll have to build a much larger heat shield then, but you're right, its not really worth it. plus if the box can hide the ABS it makes everything cleaner (as your can see in the picture, i really need to clean the engine bay!!)
as soon as winter is over...
