Title: Noise in 2nd and 4th Gears
Post by: n2motorsports on February 20, 2008, 08:10:18 PM
here's a weird one:

when in 2nd or 4th gear there is a very noticable "whooshing" noise...sounds is best described between a metal scrapping noise and a rush of water being force through restricted metal pipes??  the noise is coming from the center console.

it happens at about 2k and gets louder as the rpm rises.  Anyone encounter this before?

Get a second opinion, but that sounds like a bearing is going bad, what happens if your in fourth, and you pull back on the lever? Like just driving in fourth gear, holding it in gear hard with your hand? does the sound go away or get louder?

Cheers

Tried that, it made no difference.  The sound us usually under throttle, with or without load.  I'll swap out my tranny fluid with some redline stuff, see if that quiets it down.  Should I see some metallic shavings if a bearing is going bad?

Someone mentioned it could be the synchro, since it's only happening in 2nd and 4th.  Any ideas?
