91 e30, truck lock stopped being able to rotate, and the swinging bit of metal is no longer sprung into the closed position.
Has anyone taken one of these out and looked at it? Is there a spring back in there? It sure seems like whatever is in there has come out and jammed up.
The real problem being that it is stuck and posistioned in lock. Electric locks have never unlocked my trunk when the key was physically locked.
What could be jammed in there?

what if you spray some WD-40 and go really gently? sometimes sand and dust or condensation can make it stick

I've applied breakfree CLP (100 times better than WD40 will ever be) several times and parked it in a 40 degree garage for a few days to see if it was frozen... No cigar.
Moments ago I went into the garage and using a pick fished out a rod with a spring on it, and the metal flap and a peice of rubber, all of which were displaced and loose.
So something else I didn't find is around in there, and is physically jamming the mechanism.
