If you guys haven't seen the new May Grassrootd, there is a HUGE article on the 91' 318is. Just thought you guys might wanna check it out.

fire up that scanner man!
I've heard bits and pieces... I need to subscribe, obviously!!
can you give us the readers digest version?
-
haha well I didn't buy it, I was hoping to get a scanned version from someone but anyway. They said that it is a great car and that the m42 is a very underrated engine. They said its prob the best 4banger BMW has ever made.
Some Highlights
- They said to change your plug wires asap. The stock ones, even though they may look fine, they wear out from age. They replaced their's and got about 6 HP IIRC.
- K&N cone filter lost 5hp w/out a heat sheid and was about the same w/ a hear sheild. They said that the cone filter sounded great & un-cluttered the engine. But they also said they prob could have spent their $ on other things. So basically they are just for fun, which is why I have one :D

I'd be all over the plug wires...If they weren't like $100 for a set.

Well I was keepin this on the DL but I have been thinking about that for a while. I am in the process of getting some wires that don't have esistors in them like the stock ones. I am working w/ a freind that has made a simmilar high spark ign. for a e21. Sorry to keep you guys in the dark for so long

Screw spark plug wires! I have 4 M50 coils coming :p

Well, although it is a few (4 pages IIRC) long, it isn't THAT informative. Other than the fact that they gained ponies by putting in new Magnecore wires. And that they lost power with the addition of the BMP intake, same HP after a cardboard heatshield(seriously, it was made out of card board). They also installed a Conforti chip and a supersprint exhaust. After all the upgrades, they were putting down 131rwhp, and were doing 0-60 in 8.45 seconds, in hot, humid, Florida weather. Also, they attributed the slow 0-60 time to having to shift into 3rd before 60 (that's why I have a 3.91 :D), in addition to the hot weather.
Oh yeah, and as mentioned above, they did say that the June issue will be about adapting a Z3 S/C to the car.
