Title: Help getting started with standalone engine mgmt

for someone who wants to start learning about this stuff (megasquirt, various flavors of standalone engine management)
... what general references or websites etc do you recommend?

I have to start slowly at this stuff, basically from the beginning... my brain is old, and filled with useless facts about the 1980s... it's only helpful when I watch Vh-1
