My first post on these forums, please be gentle.:D
I have a '91 318i, when I started the car this morning it immediatly raced to 5000 rpm. I have never had this problem before.
Some history - after sitting for months, I had to replace the fuel pump and the starter. Now I have problems with the electric windows, a/c fan, fuel gauge not working -I believe the new starter solenoid is the problem with those issues, but can it also cause the uncontrolled engine speed?
thanks for any help.

Found the throttle cable was stuck partially pulled out by the throttle body bracket that holds the end of the cable. Need a new cable.
