Does the oil housing (to the block) gasket need permatex or silicone? My new rebuild has a slight oil leak and it might be from that area. When I reattched oil filter housing unit I used silicone plus the gasket. Was wondering if I messed it up. Thanks..

im thinking of replacing my oil housing gasket as well...does anyone have an answer to the original post?

Don't use silicone, as it could clog up the ports on the housing. If anything at all, use some permatex gasket sealer that you brush on to the sealing surfaces. It wont ooze into the ports like silicone will.

You guys better remember to replace the o-ring while you're in there. The original is guaranteed to be trash by now, even if it's not leaking.

Definitely use that permatex stuff. It wors wonders, and holds up really well. Also, the o-ring is vital, and its like a buck, so it's not worth skipping. Mine leaks in this area (only engine leak left! Woohoo!!!) so I'll be doing this as soon as it gets warm again.
