Title: Bosal exhaust
Post by: Jimmy on November 19, 2007, 09:54:06 AM
Currently I'm having trouble with my bosal exhaust.  Either the fit is poor or I used the wrong brackets.  1 exhaust hanger broke off the car so now its hanging by 2 out of 3 donuts.  Anyone else have similar problems?  Previously I had a rusted supersprint muffler that rattled and need replacement to pass emission inspection.  Eventually I will be going back to the supersprint exhaust.

What problem is it, exactly, that you are having?

I never could get my stock Bosal replacement exhaust to hang right. And I spent an inordinate amount of money on a BB Triflo exhaust, only to find that the fit was virtually identical. I could have spent a lot of time chasing that down and trying to figure out exactly what the problem was, but instead I spent 5 minutes with a cutoff wheel on my Dremel and made the exhaust opening on the rear valance a little larger.  :)

I suspect it may be that my motor mounts are original and at almost 190k miles, throwing the whole thing out of alignment minutely at the front and thus a fair amount at the rear, but don't know yet, I haven't replced the mounts.

Rubber donut fits fine in front of the subframe  although now it looks like it going to give away from being stretched so much.  Exhaust bracket in the very rear of the muffler fits fine but the hanger attached to the car snapped off the car and is missing now.  The front bracket attached to the muffler body never fit right so a rigged a temporary fix with just the top of the bracket and some copper wire.  When I first installed it the right way it would rub the rear valence too on the left side.  Car also has an aftermarket replacement cat.  I will check the motor mounts.

Yep, that's the spot, my OEM Bosal replacement rubbed there, the Eberspacher I took off to put the Bosal on rubbed there, and the Triflo rubbed there.

That's why I cut it out - I got tired of messing with it.
