Title: E36 to e30 M42 swap...almost done need help
Post by: ejectorbed on October 21, 2007, 11:15:24 AM
Hi,

Just replaced my broken E30 318is M42 engine with an E36 version.
The engine is in place, with all the necessary parts swapped over.

However, due to my own stupidity, I am stuck.
Little care was taken when I stripped down the old engine and now I have a bunch of rubber pipes and I can't figure out where they all go.

All I need is a few pictures of a working engine with the air filter removed from the throttle housing (all the gubbins is under there), so I can see where everything goes. Once I've got this sorted out, she'll be eady to fire up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone looking to do the same swap and needing some advice (apart from the aforementioned problem), I'd be happy to answer your questions.

That's great.

I'm the poor sucker who had to help Ejectorbed !!!

Are these for the e30 plumbing ??
I ask because the plumbing when the engine is fitted to the e36 is different to when it's fitted to the e30.

cheers

That looks like the set up for the E36.
It looks similar to the cut off piping that came with the replacement engine.

We have a feeling that the piping on the old engine was a bit of a botched job in the first place.
Does anyone know for sure if there is a difference in the piping between the E36 and E30?

What piping? Water, vacuum?

Think I've got the water sussed, but could still do with some confirmation.
Vacuum is the main concern though.

Well the only vacuum on the E36 is the vacuum box under the lower intake, is that the problem?

A good nights sleep and a clear head got the plumbing sorted out.
Thanks for all your help.
