I know in my old 1986 ETA i didnt have a gas light.. well i didnt really have any gauges. My old man said something about a gas light when i first got the car. I never let the car go below a quarter tank because i don't like running a car to empty. I am doubting it but did they put in a low gas warning light?

Thanks bro, very nice and straight forward answer.. THREAD OVER

or not....
What kind of bulb does it use? Mine is either buned out or the sensor is bad because I ran it to within .5 gallons of being empty with no light, and it doesn't light on startup like my parent's E34 (my only source of comparison).

it the same place on ALL bmw's starting with the E21 series cars. its just below the red mark on the gas gauge.
-
It doesnt light up in accessory mode. It SHOULD, but it doesn't. The car has been low enough on gas that I know it works, too (repeatedly).
-
it's one light that's on a bit to often these days.. :(

Mine works.
Not sure about acc mode, but it definitely works.
I think it comes on when you are down to 2 gallons left.
