So last weekend I was out on a drive w/ the local bmw guys. Long story short, hard corners plus low on oil equals #2 cylinder rod bearing is laying in the pan. The jury is out on whether I'm gonna get a new crank and rebuild, get a different m42, or my favorite option is an m52 I have layin in my buddy's garage w/ my name on it.

What M52, 2.0, 2.5?

I didn't know there was a 2 liter 6 banger M52?! Around here all i see is 2.5

m52 is the 2.8L, m50 is the 2.5L, and there wasn't a 2 liter...

M50B20 out of the E36 320i?
Well it depends on what your budget is and what you want really. If you rebuild would you be rebuilding to stock specs? If you go that route you'll have a brand new engine that'll last a long time. Getting a working used M42 would be the cheapest route...and swapping an M52 is not cheap but you get gobs of power but you lose the high reving fun 4 banger :P

this sounds like "stroker time" to me!! :-D

I like your style.. I'm going to pick up a low mileage M42 and stroke the shit out of it.. When im done just swap it

After lots of talk w/ my dad as well as searching with what I want out of the car, I'm gonna go w/ m50b25. I had an m52 but the owner decided he wants to keep driving the car w/ blown headgasket and let the new motor sit in the garage. So, I picked up an m50 and soon will be running strong w/ an m50. Don't worry, the 318is emblem ain't going no where.
