Title: Control Arm boot ripped
Post by: mdl76 on October 14, 2007, 02:31:13 AM
I have two new control arms I got with the car I bought.  The arms are from bavarian autosports.  they are new in the package and one of them has a nice rip in the inner ball joint boot.  If im correct you can not replace just the rubber boot.  you must replace the whole arm.  is that correct?  kinda silly if it is.

If i cant im going to see is bavarian will exchange them since im going to by buying much more from them (as long as they set this right).

It's possible to replace the boot, but AFAIK not by the regular DIYer. As long as there is not evidence that they have been installed, you should be fine - I've no complaints about BavAuto's customer service.

I'd try Patrick or Yves at BMAParts.com, though - customer service is excellent and prices tend to be much better, even for OEM dealer-ordered stuff. And don't let the online catalog fool you - they can order anything the dealer can get.

You can replace the individual ball joint if you have access to a press. Both ball joints come in a kit that sells for $25-$35 on e-bay.

If the arm is brand new, and its just the boot that is torn on he inner joint then just replace the inner joint boot.  No need to replace the whole arm, or joint.  There is just a little clip that holds the boot around the bottom of the joint.

Im just going to see if they replace it.
I need to order one any ways.  For some dumb reason the parts I got from the P/O are different.  The left arm is different from the right.  the inner ball joint to the outer measurement is about 1/8 difference.  Why are P/O's so f'in retarded?
