Title: E36 M42, modified chip, what rev-limit ?
Post by: DutchM42 on August 30, 2007, 08:18:32 AM
Hey guys. For what max-rpm is the E36 M42 designed ? Currently the OEM-chip cuts fuel at 6700 rpm. The new chip will be set to run on RON98 (highest) fuelquality. Is 7200 rpm a safe limit ? Or can it be stretched to even higher rpm's ?
The connecting-rod bearings in the shortblock have been replaced just to be sure.

7200 is a safe rev limit. I would not go any higher though.

It will take heavier duty/lighter mass valvetrain parts to rev past 7500 safely. The bottom end should be good to 7500 though.
