Title: Can't open trunk!
Post by: P. Kennedy on August 22, 2007, 05:49:52 PM
Since I bought the car a month or so ago, the trunk button has been hard to press, but has always granted my access - until today.  And I need to get in there to replace a rear turn signal bulb.  The key is no help whatsoever, won't turn anything but the ignition (guess I should be grateful for that.)  I am tempted to whack the trunk button with a rubber mallet, but it's against my better judgement.

BTW, are there supposed to be mini light bulbs behind the rear defroster button and the emergency flasher button?  Please don't go berserk on me if it's an ignorant question.

I couldn't get my trunk open once.  I went back the next day and it popped open like nothing was wrong.  Go back in a little while and try it again.  Who knows...

If worse comes to worse, you can either smash out one of the taillights, although that will probably bend sheetmetal you don't want to bend, or take the back seat out and pound out the skibag hole so you can gain access.

I'd vote for the skibag hole, myself, and I happen to have a skibag you can buy from me to fill it up again!  :D  Of course, you'd then need to have an armrest rear seat, but I also have a gray cloth one of those available!

You could also just put your seat back in, but where's the fun in that?

Short version: remove rear seat, get hammer, pound out skibag hole, try to open trunk from there.

yeah thats why I don't have a ski tunnel cover anymore....

knock it off and crawl in there.  then you can unbolt the latch and the lid opens!

I now know why I couldn't press in my trunk button, and I kinda hate to admit it.  I keep a small plastic gasoline container in the trunk (because I don't know how far I can travel once the low fuel light comes on) and I keep the gas container somewhat anchored with bungee cords.  I had hooked the bungee cord ends into the opening behind the trunk release button thereby preventing the button from full travel.  I happened to press the button today and the trunk popped open.  All is well.  At least with trunk access anyway.
