Title: noise/rattle when braking hard
Post by: jakeb on August 21, 2007, 05:10:27 PM
My 318 has been sitting about a week while I was driving my turbo 02.
I drove it today and when I brake hard (anything that makes the car dip forward) I get a nasty rattle from the back of the car.  It sounds like something is hitting the heat shield or the exhaust is dragging on the ground but nothing is.

I can make the sound come and go by pushing and then releasing the brakes.

What do you think it might be?  I was thinking maybe the center bearing?
The car has 182k on it.

Could be damper mounts too.

What do you mean damper mounts?  trans mounts?

I jacked it up today.  Pretty sure it is the CSB, I can shake the drive shaft by hand up and down at least an inch and can hear it hitting the heat shields.

CSB, guibo, and new nuts all the way around are on their way.
