Hi, I need to choose what Garrett T3 should I use in my future FI build...
Please, don't tell me that T3s are old or similar things, I know...;)
This will be the stg1 of this project.
[Next, if I'll need it, I'll swap it to a GT28r or something, but I need to go with a T3 for a while (because I can get them rebuilt, for low prices from a friend, and because they aren't sh*t for low budget projects...)]
1) T3 60 TRIM, .60/.48 from SVOs, thunderbirds...
Turbine
-Wheel: stg1
-Housing: 0.48 a/r
Compressor
-Trim: 60 trim
-Housing: .60 a/r
-Maps:
2) custom T3 60 trim. .42/.48
as #1, but with compressor housing .42 A/R
3) T3 50 trim, .42/.48, from volvo and saab
Turbine
-Wheel: stg1
-Housing: 0.48 a/r
Compressor
-Trim: 50 trim
-Housing: .42 a/r

I need that full boost (7-8psi) will come in at 2700-3000revs (not later) and stay full until 6000, or better revlimiter. The WG will be internal.
What combination of trim, compressor A/R and turbine A/R is better?
(I remember you that my car is a 318is 1,9L.)
thank you:)
(manifold will be neukin, if they will reply at my email:D)
-
I'm not sure what your budget is but I still have a gt28r from a skyline if you are interested.

No, thanks for the offer, but Idon't want it. Maybe later I'll go into GTs... ;)
I need to choose between those T3s:)
-
not a reply :(
I think that I need to find a fast way to have a tubular turbo manifold... neukin tell me that they need 4-5 weeks for building one...
I think that I'll buy for dirty cheap a T3 rebuilt 50 trim .48t/.42c for start...
How much will be the difference in power between a 60 trim .60compressor, and a 50 trim .42 compressor?
with the T3 50 .48t/.42c it will spool between 2100->2700rpms, and at max revs should keep boost, and at rev limiter it's 10% more efficiently than DASC...
-
I got a t3 super 60 on mine .42/.48 with an internal gate. I just put a new center section in and now I am making about 12psi between that rpm range and it will stay there. As for a manifold, just go buy some low carbon weld fittings and make your own manifold, thats what I did, cost me 70 bucks for a manifold and it has last me a couple years and a few runs on the track with no problems yet.
-
go with the T3 60 TRIM, .60/.48 from SVOs, thunderbirds...
If you make a ok manifold. than you shud get full boost at 3000rpm. and star charging at 1500rpm i gues
but go for 8-10 psi of boost, more fun. more HP.
-
i just checked on the ride home from work, im making about 10-11 psi between about 2600-2800rpm. The manifold I made is quite simple in design, its almost a mix of a log and tubular in one. Im only running a 2 1/4" downpipe right now as well.
-
there is another option with T3 flange:
Mitsubishi TD04HL-15g from volvos...
it's t3 flanged and all people say that it will spool fast than T3, and with this 15g compressor it should push hard until rev limiter...
what you think?
I can have T3 60 .48t/60c at same price than Mitsu td04hl-15g... what I should choose?
map are similars...
-
I hawe heard bad ting about the Mitsubishi ones

WHAT? are you talking about a 318is with the super 60? If so please pics:D
why downpipe is so thin?
-
Yeah its a '91 318is, i dont have pictures right now, ill try to get them later if i have time. I actually ran a mitsu bottom mount turbo on it for the first turbo setup and then got rid of that cause the mistu was crap and then built a whole new setup using a t3 super 60 top mount turbo. I have been meaning to run a bigger downpipe, just havnt had much time, when i built the turbo kit i had a bunch of 2 1/4 bends lying around and it was the last part i needed to make to get my car on the road... Over a year later and I still havn't gotten around to doing it. those #'s i gave you were from cruising down the highway in 5th btw

Great! Do you like it? :D
what mitsubishi turbo was the other bottom mounted? Maybe the mitsu was boosting before than garrett.
I'm still doubting. The car is daily driven, so often is in low revs like in 5th at 2500 revs..
But if you said me that with a T3 Super 60 the spool will be like you wrote, that's another story.
"10-11 psi between about 2600-2800rpm." is great... do you know if with a "Neukin equal lenght bottom mount manifold" the spool will be worse than your or better? My exhaust will be all 2,5" from downpipe, without CAT! I'm searching only a great turbo and waiting another reply from neukin, because I can get mitsu TD04HL-16T with T3 flange, for new at lower price that a new t3 60 trim .48t/.60c...
-
I was just running a td05h 14b, i dont really know what the spool time was, it was a completly different setup than what i have now, there are so many other things that have changed since then. It was not a reliable setup for my DD and it was my first attempt at a turbocharger setup. When I was cruising down the highway the other day I was trying to watch both at the same time and it looked like it was hitting about 10-11 psi at about 2600-2800, I coudlnt do it in any other gear cause it was raining and just starts to burn out. I never had an equal length on the car so i couldnt tell you but I do know that when you are doing custom work, it was a lot easier with a top mount turbo at least on the e30 anyways. I would assume it should be better because it is much more efficient.
-
thinking about going with t28 and buy a neukin with t2x flange and not t3... they are able of 300rwhp on sr20det..
basically they have a t25 turbine with a T3 compressor 60 trim, .60 a/r... so the flow will be the same of svo's turbo, but with a fast spool and low boost threshold.
what do you think about t28 vs t3 for use it at max 12psi?
-
ca 230 hp at 12 psi. 250 at 1bar full boost at 2600rpm ore less.
GT2860R is a god mach for 1,8 liter
Se www.turbobygarrett.com (http://www.turbobygarrett.com) for info, turbo maps etc
-
Its hard to tell what will be the best, everything changes with every turbo setup between what parts you use, you kindof have to just pick one and hope it works out good. I've seen several people research what turbo will be best for their car and finally get the one they want, the turbo blows so they go and pull a turbo off a deisel truck and ends up being much better turbo for the car. I am happy with my t3, I built my car for a streetable track car and it works out good.

I was wrong: SVOs don't have .48 A/R turbine housing, but it's 0.63.
Merkur XR4TI has .48turbine and .60 compressor like I want.
I bought a T3 60 trim, .48turbine and .60compressor fully rebuilt:D
Now I'm searching to buy fast a great manifold!
-
Cool!
I think the T3 60 trim is almost the best choice. I am gonna use something like that too.
About the manifold ... do you like this one:

Yes, T3 60 trim is best choice for performance/price ratio:D
That manifold sucks if you buy it from racetech.
That isn't their real picture.
The original of that manifold is produced from a Ebay user called "argopeti". Try to search it in ebay and ask him...
I emailed him many times, the racetech is built in china with a bad steel and really-thin = 1,8mm... the original of argopeti is 3mm!
But the original cost near 550 euro...;)
I'll buy neukin if they will answer me about shipping:rolleyes: or 666fab if he can do one for under 700$
(Alibi, if you want a eaton M62 supercharger I'll sell you mine from a 230k:D)
go turbo... I wrote you that S/C was too complicated! That is because I'm going turbo, even if supercharger "kit" was fitted and running:)
I wasn't secure to pull the car at very high speed with a belt that can came off because is not perfect aligned:o
and I know...
-
Oh ... thanks for the tipps about the manifold. The Neukin looks really nice and it cost not so much. But how will stay the turbo (Down or Up) .. I mean Infront alittlebit over the Engine, or under the engine?
About the SC ... as I said... If I had the time to pull the engine off the car and spare some time on measuring and so on ... I would went for SC, but I didn't have that time, so I will spare some money and this Christmas I will go for turbo. We will stay in touch ... as I see, your goals are the same as mine :)
-
yes the T3 60trim A/R 0,48 0,60 is a good choice.:p
i have the china manifold and it`s 1,8 mm thick. bad fitment. has to botum mont the turbo to use the manifold.:(

Is this buttom mounted?

It's a e36. the frame around the engine leave minor space that a e30, so it will be bottom mounted;)
We will stay in touch ... as I see, your goals are the same as mine :)
Great!

Yesterday the turbocharger have been shipped from USA to Italy :Dnow I need to buy a bit of other things :D
-
Placed order at turbogoods for Neukin's Turbo Manifold:)
Damn, they need 3-4 weeks to build it, because they have a huge number of orders now... I'll wait;)
I think that I'll buy this downpipe too, 3" inch:D:

searching for oil lines and water cooling lines too!
-where are picked watercooling lines from in our cars? (pics..)

ops :D
sorry for low quality pics...
my T3, 60 trim, .48 turbine and .60 compressor....
directly from USA:
