I see this topic has been beaten to death, however, my searching didn't turn up an actual part number. I know it's a 2.25" in and out, but I'm not sure of the other dimensions.
Below is a link to the Summit Racing website:

Thanks!

WLK-17735 I'm pretty sure it is this one. I know for a fact that both ends are offset with 2 1/4" in and out. My son has this on his car. Fits good, although kind of small for the stock straps. No resonator, aftermarket cat. I don't like the sound. Way too ricey (raspy) for me. Others say the same. Might be different with a resonator, but I doubt it would make it much better.
-
Can any one verify that it's the WLK-17735?
-
Resonator will make it WAY better sounding. You'll be surprised what a nice sized resonator will do to the sound without adding restriction.
-
replace the cat with resonater and then get the super turbo. just get whatever one the local autozone has...I trimmed my rear valance to make it fit:cool: as I have said in another post, I have had people say it sounds like an E46 M3

I've had two of the 2.25" super turbos. Exactly worth what you pay for! Removing the resonator made it sound ricey. With a generic 15" resonator it sounded great! Unfortunately with my 3 mile commute, they only last 6 months each. The baffles start rattling. If they were bolt on or if I had my own welder I would keep doing this for ever! Switching to supersprint...
-
yeah a resonator/glasspack will make it sound MUCH better. They remove diff sounds than a baffled muffler. And there really isn't just one of them that will work for you kencopperwheat, just pic a diameter that you want and the position of the inlet and outlet. You or your welder should be able to make just about any of them work for you ;)
-
e30s4evr, have you gotten a supersprint yet? I'm trying to choose between the two setups, and would like to know what your thoughts are.
-
On its way. I can let you know in a week or two...

I'm keeping the stock cat and resonator in there. As all of you mentioned, I've heard it sounds like crap without the resonator, and we have to have a cat in Portland.
I was just wondering if there was a specific model number of Dynomax that fits the best?

I had a Dynomax on my m42 until a few months ago. Part # WLK 17747 and it fit fairly well. I used the stock muffler hangers and added a couple of universal erector set type hangers to to keep it tight. I also used a reducer on the inlet side and added a stainless steel 3 inch tip.
It sounded pretty good after it warmed up but if you got on the throttle hard when it was cold it did sound ricey and had some rattling baffles. I was running the stock cat and resonator too.
This was a nice economical performance muffler that sounded good for the money as long as you didn't mind massaging the fitment a bit.
I recently replaced it with a Supersprint system only because my intermediate pipe rusted through. The Supersprint is much quieter than the Dynomax BTW.
Hope this helps, Dan.

OK, this may sound like a moronic question, but are mufflers directional?
I have received recommendations on which model of Super Turbo to use, and one has an offset inlet and centered outlet, and the other has a centered inlet and an offset outlet. Which is correct?
Thanks for the help.

It will work either way if you think about it

can you explain what a resonater is and where I can get it? I like E46 M3 sound :p

Yes, they are directional.
Dan.

The website claims that they can be installed to flow in either direction. I'm also looking at a similar muffler for my 07' wrx so if I'm wrong I'd like to know.

I just went to a local exhaust shop and asked for a cheap resonator, and they threw it on. I believe a resonator is like a rasp eliminator, or extremely low restriction muffler

If anyone's interested, I have a knock-off of that muffler sitting in my basement, I used it for a couple days and took it off. Without a resonator, the sounds was brutal! $25 shipped.

Okay forgive me if I missed some of the reply to this thread and I am repeating some. First off I just spent all day installing a Dynomax muffler on my E30 a 1984 318i I know it's not a M42 but I will get to the M42. I took 2 1/2" pipe and installed it just pass where the two flange are bolted together straight back to the Dynomax muffler super turbo 17733 is the part number. This car sounds great no "ricer" sound. Oh yeah here is the M42 story I did the same thing to my 1991 318is except I took the "cat" and the "resinator" out and installed different Dynomax muffler I beleived this might be the one in question because this has a body similar to a "flowmaster". Man did I make a mistake my car sounded like a "Ricer" till I had my daughter drove it to the specified rpm before changing gear and followed her with my Boxster that day was the worst day of my car loving days. It sounded like a Ricer alright. I fixed it by getting a high flow cat 4" in dia and 12.5" long and a 4" dia 12" long resinator talk about a nice sounding car. So I advice anyone not to eliminate the resinator or the cat from the your system unless you like the Ricer sound. I believed this is where I can get a "honda" if you like the Ricer sound. That's my 2 cents.

funny, I had the exact same experience. Had a dynomax on my m10 318 with gutted cat, and it was surprising quiet. Put the similar muffler on the m42, just like you, with no cat and no resonator and it's a whole different mess of loud. :(
