I ordered some replacement ellipsoid beams for my car off ebay, and they're not for the e30 headlight bucket it seems...
But wait! realoem says they are. Did these cars come with a different style of bucket, ever (other than the sealed beam type)? It seems to be the same one as an e34 5-series.
Here's the weird bucket I'm talking about. (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=1111&mospid=47263&btnr=63_0048&hg=63&fg=05)
The headlights I got off ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=004&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=140130537949&rd=1,1#ebayphotohosting).

Ellipsoids have a different bucket than the sealed beams. Those are the only two types I know of. You say "replacement". Does this mean you had ellipsoids originally or that you ordered them to replace sealed beams?

The E34 buckets are different then the E30 ones, at least from what I have seen at the salvage yard. I believe the headlights themselves are the same but I am not sure.
