I notice this only during spring/summer/fall, occassionally I'll hear 3 short audible beeps from near the cluster area inside the car...not the BMW door chime beeps but some short tone beeps.
Looked thru the manual and couldn't find anything. The only warning light on is my brake lining light because I never reinstalled my brake pad sensor.
What is it?

Your radio?
-
memo reminder???
-
This happens when your clock hits XX:59 to "remind" you of radio broadcasts on the hour, I'm not sure how to turn it off though, maybe the memo button?
-
Well heres the deal, the clock is still saying 12:00 since I havent set it (everytime i do, i end up disconnecting the battery to work on something so i dont bother), and my radio is aftermarket.
-
Mine beeps three times reletively faintly whenever I reconnect the battery, although this doesn't sound like your problem.
-
my pioneer deck beeps thrice when i turn the car off to remind me to remove the faceplate, which i never do. ive trained myself to use the beeping as a headlight reminder though.
you may want to look in the options of your radio to see if there is something that says "warn" or "warning" or something to that effect.
-
Guys, its not the radio - the beeping has been occuring even when I had the stock deck in there.
I think it could be a malfunctioning 6button obc or a memo feature I accidentally set.

You know what it might be... I had this same issue with my 325. The chime that alerts you when the key is in the ignition, would sometimes make different noises. As if it was warped, sometimes it would sound correct and sometimes it would make a very faint sound. It went away after a while, I have no idea what caused it and why its back to normal again. Hope it helps.

Achtung, did you figure out how to make this go away? I've got the same problem. It's not my radio either. It's three short beeps coming from under the dash. It will usually do it first thing in the morning when I start it up. Happens intermittently and unpredictably though it after that. I may have set something on the memo though can't tell what as the display is messed up. Anyone know how to fix this? My other unanswered question is how to make the check brake lining light go away. I've checked pads and for loose sensor. No problems there. I've read in a number of posts that this seems to be a known issue and caused by a short in the dash unit? Anyone know how to fix it?
Thanks

Take a short piece of wire and connect the brake lining sensor leads together. I've wondered what the MEMO button was for but have never been able to make it do anything. The display can be fixed by taking it apart carefully making notes how it goes together. There are layers of glass, the light up stuff, some other things and the order is important. The connector strip shorts out from years worth of gunk where it is stuck in the case and makes contact with the pins. Clean it with tape deck cleaner or something like that.

mine does the three beep...right after i pulled my cluster out to replace a few bulbs...and i too had the battery disconnected.
-
3 beeps usually mean the weather outside is 2.5-3 degrees celsius, or about the frezeeng point. This a warning to be carefull. Next time it beeps, just check the temp on the OBC. I have it im my e30 and had it on e46.

3 beeps is associated with xx:59 o'clock, as mentioned above.
One beep is associated with 35 (or so degrees) as a remined that bridges can freeze above 32 degrees.

I second this!
