Title: S14 intake on M42?
Post by: Vladi on July 04, 2007, 04:10:05 PM
A guy here has a complete S14, engine, gearbox, everything. Problem is the head's got a small crack and the lower bearing shells need to be replaced. He's giving it away for 500 euros / 680$. That's expensive if you ask me...to repair would cost another 1000 euros / 1360$. I would buy it for 300 euros and stash it in my cellar until i have the money for the repair but the only thing that really bothers me is the cracked head. I have a place were it can be professionally welded but i don't trust how much it would hold...
On the other hand i'd buy only the intake from it and install it on my M42.
Has anyone done this? What parts do i need? TB's+injectors+airbox+AFM?

Thanks!

Buy the whole thing.  If the crack is in the right place, it can easily be repaired --- and bearings are not difficult to replace, or expensive...

... so for very cheap, you could have a complete S14 in running shape.  Then you can either use it --- or sell it for a big profit and have some $$$ to play with!

When opportunity knocks, always answer the door.

That package is almost free... I would pay that only for dogleg transmission.

S14 and M42 have different cylinder spacing so you would need adapter plate between S14 ITB and M42 to match the S14 ITB's ports and M42 intake ports.

For 500€ I would buy the whole lot and lump it in to my E36 after repairs. Relatively lightweight engine in E36 with atleast 200 hp would be fun package

That is 1993 BTCC E36 318is that had S14 destroked down to 2 liters :)

You would need to chop it up a little bit and make an adapter.  The spacing between the S14's intake ports is different than the M42's by a bit.  It would be a ton of work.  I think you ar ebetter off using the Euro E36 m3 TB's, or ones from a sportbike.  I would buy the S14 and gearbox though...those could be fun too!

To use the S14's Getrag 265 gearbox i'd need a 3.25 LSD, otherwise with the current 4.10 i'd have a top speed of 160km/h wich is not fun. Too much work and hassle, i've got tons of work to do. Just finished installing an M43B18 in a customers E30 Baur next is an A/C install on an E28 524td and another A/C install on an E30 325i convertible. :)
I knew about the adapter plate but i was interested if someone has done this, pics, info, exactly what parts i need, etc.

I didn't know you have free speeds on Romanian "Autobahns" ;)
Think about massive acceleration you will have...

Actually, we don't. :D It's supposed to be 130km/h but who cares, there are no cops on the freeway and no radars.
