Title: odometer anf tripometer stopped
Post by: dlmrun2002 on July 01, 2007, 08:19:48 PM
Just pulled cluster. Gears all look good. Speedometer still working. All other gauges working. Looked for "cold solders" on circuit board with magnifying glass. Didn't see any. AND--- I rotated the gears and they all seemd to work--odometer worked, etc... Could a gear been a little stuck or are we looking at an electrical problem? Any input is greatly appreciated..

I have the same problem, actually it has happened before and just miraculously started working again. The last time it quit was about 10 minutes before a fill up, I noticed it didn't work but when I left the gas station it started working again. Who knows. It would be great if it was just a blown fuse or something , it always seems to be a blown fuse, haha.

Check the wiring at the sending unit in the differential. Mine had corroded through, and stopped working.

Bet you a donut that it's the wiring back there.

You can pick up replacement wiring from the stealer or BMA; pop the plastic cover on the connector body, remove the original, and put the new connectors in. Of course, the wires will both be green now, since the replacement wiring does not come with the proper color-coded wires, but it's not hard to do.

If my records are right, the part is Cable Socket (pigtail) 61 13 0 007 445.

Ahh - it was early in the morning, forgive me, I missed that.

OK, so how does your SI board look? I'd check that next, see if it needs new batteries.

Speedometers  works....  not odometer or tripometer  with a different speedometer.  Bad circuit board?  Possible faulty code plug? WTF..

As ak96ss said, check the rechargeable batteries, they are located inside your cluster, they need to be replaced if they are old

Si board looks good.  No sign of malfunction.  I know what that's like.. NO tach.. no  mpg gauge.. interval and oil lights on and  won't reset...  I was thinking of doing  a reset on si board any  way. See if it helps.  But it IS  odd  that I got the  same symptons with a different speedometer...speedometer working but no  odometer ( or tripometer)

Well  after swapping  speedometers, I  exercised  the  si board and control plug connections and odometer is working. Never  actualy had to reset si board also. Lets  see how long it holds.
