Hi, great stuff!
How much boost you're planning? The exhaust manifold for the turbo will be custom made?
thanks

Today i have get some stuf back form the coater...
see the pics ...
now I can start whit bilding :D

We want see if you can go over 300-350hp without destroy the engine in parts in a day!:D
When you'll start the engine build? I'm anxious;)
It' strange to see a touring with over 300hp:)
Are you planning to heavy-modify the head for high revving or you want to stay to 7000rpm max?

normaly not :D whit H-profile rods and CP pistons...
and max rpm 7000 yes somting like that

Natrium filed valves...
Turbo camshaft...
i think....

what is You budget if I can ask You? I am thinking about the 400+ M42 next Year too...
What ECU will You use? I was planning to use VEMS...
About thinking... What about 9000rpm's? It's not that expencive when You plan to change valves too... Just throw away theese heavy oil-pressured lifts and put there light plate-adjustable ones or even AlfaRomeo type ones... And You will be free to rev a lot more...
BTW, with that big turbocharger it would be really tricky to drive that beast :) And this is what tigers like most!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!

Nice stuff !
Those KMS systems are just great. Here's KMS engine management system installed into a Finnish Porsche 951:

KMS "kit" for Porsche 951:

This system produced 400 hp from 2,5 L Porsche 951 engine. Turbo used was a Holset unit. Somehow i doubt you will not get 400hp from a 1,8liter engine...
If you get some serious hp figures you should also upgrade your brakecalipers.
I am using these units under my 3.0L Porsche 951:

This KMS looks promising.... I will take a closer look at the weekend. I'm jelous about theese porshe brake calipers...
I definately think, that You should upgrade Your front disks and calipers - take a look at http://www.300mm.de . . .
I'm going to adapt bmw e38 calipers and fit them with A3 Audi rotors. They will be just 284mm big :( but I will keep my 15 inches rims - they are the only reasonable for our roads conditions...
My budget will be about 5000 euros - including painting/ welding/ tranny/ brake conversion and all things You can see in my member profile... I'm going low budget rather than all new parts - but the project has "just" begun...
:) So who knows how will it end... I can feel that it will raise as time goes by...
-
About the Brakes ... http://www.300mm.de ... there you can buy some realy good 312mm Brake kits for about under 1000Eu.
And about the excaust manifold .... I saw a good one in ebay.de ... http://stores.ebay.de/Racetech-Development_Turbokrummer_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ8488355QQftidZ2QQtZkm (http://stores.ebay.de/Racetech-Development_Turbokrummer_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ8488355QQftidZ2QQtZkm)

Wow that's a lot of parts! Very nice pile you got going there, can't wait to see the build and the outcome of this project. Take lots of pictures while you do it alright?
They are called stainless steel braided brake lines.
-
I have these reserved for upcoming BMW project.
Or these a little bit smaller ones
(http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y170/olli951/DSCN0757.jpg)
I just got these when i exchanged some Porsche parts, could also consider them. It's quite hard to make a descision ;)

i'am also thinking and looking about the 300mm.de brakes (308mm for my 16" ) whit Tarox discs and ferodo blocks

Used/New Porsche Brembos are available from German Ebay. Don't waste your money into some kit. All the parts are readily available, also caliper adapters can easily fabricated by a local machine shop. We have done it for several Porsches.

me too ;)

I am in the middle of building a 3.0L turbo engine for my Porsche 951. I also plan to powdercoat some parts. I have already had some parts yellow passived in the way they were when car left factory. Most of these parts were dirty, dull and looked more greyish than nice golden/yellow they should look. I clean then first with citric acid from all the dirt and grease. After that i had them yellow passived.

WOWOWOWOWOW!!!! After spending some time at work, I've finally read Your posts... And I find that You are doing great with old owen!!!
GREAT WORK WITH THIS POWDERCOATING!!!!
I've spent some time in my local library and I've found domestic machines used to make Your parts covered with gold, Zn, Cu or any other metal that is normally used to cover metal pieces :-)
So guys, I've got idea of home made sandblaster, Tim has his domestic powder coater :) Let's do galvanizing machine... Anyone interested? I can fabricate how to do instructions...
Ose - You would be able to yellowcoat any part You want just at home... Or just galvanically change the color of any alluminnium part You like ;) /Bike parts are often colored like this/
Well, I'm still impressed by the level of restoring old cars You present here... BTW E30 is the oldmobile.

yes i know what you mean. But i only paid 40€ when plating shop did it for me, so i didn't bother to make it at home. I have anoized lots of motrocycle aluminium parts when i was young. It is also quite easy thing to do.
I already have all power tools at home, including, sandblaster cabinet. I prefer cleaning parts from rust using citric acid, because i am lazy. Just put all dirty/rusty parts to citric acid bath in the night. Remove them from the bath next morning, rinse with warm water and you are done. Easy and very clean way to prepare parts for paiting/powder coating/plating etc. Citric acid is also safe for environment, most likely everybody of us eat/drink it on daily basis.
And I find that You are doing great with old owen
I suppose Tim also made some dinner with his oven at the same time ;)

how you know that :D:p
-
Ose: Yeah I realize, that I'm pretty lazy too, so :-) I'll try citric acid next time I will have to remove rust from my car part :-) :-)
How much citric acid You give to 10l of water? Citric acid can be bought at our local foodstore right?
Anyway -> this seems the best method I've ever heard of... My friend uses some serious acids, but I didn't like that kind of bath because od environment and high health risk... It takes several minutes, but when it comes to derusting - I can wait even two or more nights :-)
-
I bought 5KG of citric acid from a local farminig equipement store. It is ment to cure pig's which has sore stomage.... 5KG cost about 20€. 10L takes 1-2DL citric acid. When parts has been cleaned you can serve used citric acid/water to your friends as lemon soda ;)
-
HaHaHaHa!!! Cute!!!
Hey all - next month lemon soda party in Cracow - Everybody invited ;-)
Lemon soda... Hahaha - It's just like baking cake just after powder coating in tim's oven :-)
Thank You for precise info :-) I will derust all my parts soon ;)

I hate this job too, but after new subframe with toe and camber adjustment will be ready I will do it second time :)
-
I hate it too, but looks like the e30 subframe is easier to fit than e36's one...
-
i like al the work on the E30 hehe ;)
for my no prob easy to do and everything clean :D

Nice work Tim. It's a pleasure to bolt on clean parts back to car. ;)

thanx and yes clean parts work fine ;)

Once my friend said that he loves E30 so much that he could do everything with that car just for fun... And after replacing whole rear setup in my car, he is much more carefull with his words... But I think that You just do it like it always should be done. Keep it going! :-)
