I can't figure out how to put a new AC compressor belt on. Does the compressor move at all?
-
Yeah, there should be an adjuster on it. May be caked in grime and hard to spot, but it does rotate! On mine I have to loosen the two bolts that hold it, above the compressor, but I've seen different setups, so YMMV.

There is no adjuster on the compressor itself. There is a third smaller idler wheel on the same belt just below the compressor. In the middle of the wheel there is a plastic cap. Remove the cap and underneath there is a large bolt. 17mm I think. Not sure. After you loosen the large bolt, reach underneath the idler wheel and undo the allen bolt. The idler wheel move up and down and allow you enough slack to replace the belt. It look me a couple of hours to figure it out a few days ago.
Good luck

This is what I was referring to when I said there were different setups. I have no idler wheel on mine, just the mounting bracket for the compressor itself.
Edit:

are the compresors on both setup's the same??

They should be, unless it was changed by another owner.
-
So take off 11, loosen 9, and remove 10? Then it should move?

Yes. That's how mine works.

D. Clay,
Can you repost that picture of the other compressor? It isn't showing for me.
Thanks,
Ken

OK, nm. Mine is the later style one, but I'm totally missing the idler wheel and the nuts/bolts associated with it. So I guess I'm going to order those and give it a shot. Too bad that idler wheel is like $50 :/

How do you tell which of these 2 pieces of equip you have and are they the same thing and should I take a Mech 101 class?

Also, what is the difference between the 2 regarding function?

Gary,
The first illustration shows a total breakdown of the compressor. Now for the most part your average mech will not go through all the trouble to figure out which of the sub-component is not doing what it's suppose to do. The second shown the complete compressor with everything install. Somewhat "plug and play". Order Item #1 and you will get a functional compressor of course after doing all the neccessary maintenance. Re-charging the system.
