Title: just bought a new TB
Post by: Cristian G in Oz on June 21, 2007, 06:32:30 PM
I just bought an M42 throttle Body wih TPS on EBAY for $80 Aus incl postage.

My plan is to get this bored out and then fit it to my otherwise stock car.  I know that it will need the ECU remapped but can anyone tell me what would be a good starting point for getting the TB bored (how much bigger)?

I was thinking 1 mm on small throat and 1.5-2mm on larger throat.

Is there anything else I should change to get the best out of this?

I am not going to replace the ECU or build big power I just wanted an extra "kick".

Thanks

Cristian

do the heater plate bypass at the same time. Thats all i can think of.

Did i read in another thread you were involved in a GrpA s14 build?

Yep certainly did.

I have now built 2 of em for the same car (over the last 3.5 years). First one cracked the block (we think old age as it was an original 1st year BMW Motorsport block), the second one the "tuner" got it wrong and when we pulled it down to check the head gasket cause we lost compression, 2 of the pistons were cactus.

We have had the latest engine built by another person as he had all the parts and we have had trouble getting it all together.

I would happily build another though.

I was thinking of deleting it and putting a spacer plate in to see if it will boost the torque a little. I was going to make it out of phanolic and aero smooth it all to streamline the airflow.

I know that is a very know mod on e36coupe.co.uk forum. There is a guy that make them, but I don't know how much they should be bored. Try to ask there.
