if i told u i got my stock m42 to 138 mph no mods? (this was before i cracked the head)
-
i wouldn't say its out of reach, depends on conditions of the road, weather, altitude, wheel/tire combo, calibration of your speedo etc.. but stock i believe its supposed to do 134 mph.

I wouldn't believe you because the speedometer is wrong. The speedometer on these cars is a optimistic by about 5% at all speeds which would explain the speed you saw. Verify your speedometer with a GPS device and you'll see. The speedo is padded from the factory to keep you from getting too many speeding tickets. It works.

I would,, I hit 136 with a heavy south dakota back wind, but if there's a 5% buffer then I guess that shoots both of us out of the water... I haven't topped it out since the chip.......

I don't think that would really be a race. Probably a really bad driver in the WRX. ;)

I've hit 227km/h on my car, what is that in miles, just shy of 140? If you take a 5.0L from this era yes it will get you there faster, maybe a little higher top speed but you definetly won't have the confidence with our cars especially with the mileage we are all accumulating. Right or wrong speedo it was still fun and fast and the car was amazingly smooth and solid at that speed. Props to the engineers at BMW + Dinan chip, removed silencer, k&n as those are the only things done to my 245,000km car.
