Title: Exhaust woes.
Post by: D. Clay on April 10, 2006, 04:27:05 PM
I have had problems with exhaust since I have had the car. I am on my second catback in 5 years. A baffle comes loose in the muffler and makes a mechanical rattling sound at certain RPM. The cat back brand name is EBERSPAECHER. I also have a problem with a leaking rear trans seal that breaks down the transmission mounts and lets the rear of the motor/trans down. This changes the angle of the front section causing it to run downhill toward the rear of the car. Is this a problem with:
1) E30's in general
2) EBERSPAECHER catbacks
3) Am I alone in this stuff?
I have sort of avoided replacing the rear trans seal because I've heard that it's a PITA.
Any suggestions, experience or insights out there? HELP!

The same thing happened with a few OE catbacks that used baffles.  Pay some extra $ for a system that does not have baffles (for example, SuperSprint is straight through with steel-wool packing, and amazingly quiet).  Baffled mufflers are gonna crap out fast, thats just how it is.
