I am getting my block back soon and should be starting to assemble the short block. I have a question about cam timing.
I basically want to dip the cams away from eachother to reduce overlap as much as possible for turbo purposes. Is the cam tool that holds the cams while you install the head and do all the timing chain work adjustable? in other words can you set the cams wherever you want, then lock them down? or does the tool hold the cams at factory timing no matter what?
Are there any other special tools I'll need to put the motor together. I took the damn thing apart 2 years ago so it should be fun

The tool is not adjustable - it holds the cams in the factory timing position. You can adjust the sprockets that bolt to them slightly, IIRC it's like 5 degrees each way.
Good luck with that.

Anyone have dimensions on the Cam tool? I could make a different one in the machine shop to set the timing differently.
