Title: can you replace control arms/ bushings with engine out

is it necesary to have the weight of the engine to put in the new control arms and bushings. I would think it would be fine especially if i use the red urethane bushings that allow for twisting of arm.

i have the engine out to replace upper oil pan seems like a good time to do this

          87 325i

Nope, this can all be done without the engine in place.

Btw, instead of typing:

"steve 91 318is
88 325
87 325i"

...everytime you can go to your "User CP" and make it your signature.

It should be the first option on the left.

I know they say after you lube the standard rubber CAB you are supposed to install it quickly and get the weight of the car back on them to let them settle in. So the weight of the car without and engine/trans will do the same. I have a set of stock bushings but will buy the poly if the will work better

You can use spay on silicone lubricant on the CAB which lasts much longer than soap. Either way once you start driving, the CAB will allow the control arm to rotate into its favorite position without any damage. Its sort of a non issues.
