Title: Alpine003
Post by: Alpine003 on May 19, 2007, 01:42:31 AM
I've quit taking pics over 5 years ago for the forums but I decided to dust off my old 3.2mp camera and do a quick and dirty mini-shoot. Please excuse my camera and camera skills as they both suck.

Wow, I like it. I'm going to have to put a cup holder in mine. Where did you get the console? The wheels look great too, what are they?

BTWE why does it seem like everyone has the same head unit? Seems like all of the e30's I see have that Alpine piece.

I believe they are called the Style 10's (factory BMW wheel)

The cup holder is great, I gotta get around to making one as well.

Oh and yeh, I have the same head unit....the Alpine 7894.

Alpine:

Where did you get that center console??

This must be the FIRST time I'm seeing pics of your car...it looks great!

That is a beautiful car. Thanks for sharing. Its inspirational. Were 91 cars produced with and without airbag for the the US or did you swap in that steering wheel?

That has been swapped to an Mtech 2 wheel. No airbag.

Glad you finally posted some pics... I have to say it looks superb both inside and out.

I'm usually not a fan of the style 10's but your car pulls it off very nicely. Well done!

Thanks guys for the compliments.

The cupholder definitely helps out. I have my armrest to hold additional cups if needed for a passenger.

I don't want to give out the answer outright for the armrest yet but it does come from a Japanese car model that has had both NA and Turbo version which shared the same drive train with an American manufacturer. A bit of trivia.

dude8383, How the heck did you identify that it was a 7894? They all look the same to me.  The Alpine wasn't my first choice but was the best deck at the time that matched my interior. I would probably prefer something more integrated looking like the Nakamichi but they don't offer any type of dsp time alignment functionality. The previous Eclipse and Pioneer Premier decks that I had didn't match the interior at all.

Suspension is your standard affair H&R Sport/Bilstein Sport combo running 21mm front sway bar along with 14.5mm rear sway bar.

2 of the style 10 rims are new and they have manufactured them slightly different from the originals. The polished lip section is actually a few mm narrow and the casting of specifictions are no longer on the lip.

To be honest as for the style of the rims, they weren't my first choice and I wasn't totally crazy over them. I chose them because I was trying to maintain an OEM theme for exterior and interior using factory optioned pieces. However, I was pleasantly surprised as the dish and offset really set them off imo after I mounted them. The eyebrows and armrest are the only non factory pieces for my exterior/interior.

Which H&R Sports are you using?  What's the part number?

How the heck did I know...

I know that this Alpine unit has amber lighting, and for us E30 heads, it is the ideal color to match the rest of the lighting in the car!

:)

I'm going to take a stab at the console.

Mitsubishi Eclipse / Eagle Talon

Mitsubishi 3000 GT / Dodge Stealth

He mentioned a Turbo and NA model that shared a drivetrain with an American car...

I can't think of anything but the Ford Probe that had the same drivetrain as the Mazda MX-6...but I don't remember any of them being turbo.

I'm stomped

ding ding. They did come in both na and turbo.

Short Shift is factory OEM unit from E36 M3. Knob is from the E46 ZHP model. The nicest knob I've owned so far and I've owned a lot of them.

REALLY?!

I had no idea they came turbo, my friend had a Probe and I was asking him about this console, and even he said no MX-6 came turbo...going to research this a bit, cause now I'm curious!

I'm going to check up on ebay and score me one as well!

That shift knob looks like the one I have, except mine is weighted, although I could be wrong...is your's weighted?

There were MX-6 turbo models but not many. I've taken apart turbos and blow off valves from these before. I believe Edmunds.com also lists turbo models on their reviews.

I have that same weighted shift knob and worth every penny. I believe that is one of the few if not only weighted knob, not to mention short knob that BMW offers.

Afriend had an Mx-6 turbo and a Probe turbo, so I know they both exist. ;)
I would have guessed a starion/conquest or the talon/eclipse.

Are there any other common place to get those knobs? I'm looking for a new one to replace the plastic/rubber one on my car.

BMW Dealer or Ebay. BMAparts.com has good prices on these.

I will say I looked around quite a bit and did some measurments on quite a few cars before I found this. The cool thing about this armrest is that it has 2 storage compartments and you can select the switch at the top to access the shallow tray or the deeper one below. More stuff to put stuff in. ;)
