Title: Is there such a thing as a M42 DTM Oil pan???
Post by: zav3n on May 17, 2007, 04:19:17 PM
i just changed my oil and just saw how much my oil pan hits the ground, at least its not as bad as the m20 ;-), but i was still wondering if anyone has heard of an m42 DTM oil pan or some sort of flat oil pan we could use... i know the s14 DTM oil pan runs arounf $1000+ if a m42 one is that much i might as well bust out the mig welder and try to build my own lol.
Thanks

if there is one, its probably that expensive. you could probably sell a few if you made one yourself as the m42 pans do lick balls.

Wouldn’t a skid plate be easier and cheaper alterative?

thought the m42 pan sat lower than the m20s..  my vote goes to skid plate!!! 666 ftw

Most likely.  I got an OEM one for $240 shipped to my door from http://www.pelicanparts.com

I suppose you could try to fab a custom one.  If it was not as tall, it would need to be wider to hold enough oil.  The pickup would make it hard too...it hangs down almost to the bottom of the stock one.  You might need to look into building a new pickup as well.  Lots of work!

i got one built for 100$. Its not that hard to make one if you have access to a metal break and a sheer, or you are good with a tape measure and go to the metal store and get them to make it for you. Should be dirt cheap then... The oil pan would just be different, and if you plan to build a higher reving engine then to prevent oil starvation you could build a new pan that holds more oil.

wow, youre goin through a lot for an oil pan.  jon volk from 666 fabrication makes a solid skidplate for $185.  why do you feel our engine needs to hold more oil? 5 quarts is plenty for a 1.8

I had a custom sump guard made from aluminum...
Served me very well...

Battle wounds as off yesterday...
The plate decreases the ground clearance by about 3/4 inch.. so it's more susceptible to being scratched.. But I had a couple of bigger incident which wud have cracked the sump if not for this plate...

wow did you bend the metal yourself??? i think im going to go this route. i looked into building a dtm oil pan and it is WAY TOO much work and money because it is not only the bottom pan it is also the upper pan that need to be rebuilt.

I just took a look at my pan, it is beat to death. How hard is it to bend metal of this gauge?
