Title: M42 Stroker Kit?
Post by: Bl3wByYou318T on May 13, 2007, 03:03:18 AM
As the topic says.Well i been lookin around alot as of lately there really isn't a kit out on the market.ALTHOUGH there is a few stroker kits for the older 4 cylinder bimmer motors.Id think some of the parts if not all would work since im pretty sure these motors share the same internals maybe bigger/smaller.But it would work id think.

Heres the kit i found pretty damn cheap also.

http://www.vacmotorsports.com/cgi-bin/view_item.pl?item_id=282

Im guessin since these 2 motors share the same block that with a little maching they'd match up.Also resleve the cylinders and port them lightly to get some more power out of her.

Im sure theres a way to pice together a m42 stroker for $2500 for the parts And pushin about 250-280hp without boost. And with a turbo kit probbly 400-600 hp depending on boost and turbo.

I been doing my research as you can tell.

Im just look for some professional opionions on putting togther a stroker m42 kit.

:).

Also i can do about 95% of this work myself so thats really not a problem but if its somthing im afarid to touch then ill take it to a shop heh.

Well, the 318is STW did 295 hp. But that engine is worth like 80000 dollars. For 2500 dollar you will end up with nothing special. Camshafts/ ECU/ intake/ pistons/ rods/ headwork/ it will be much much more expensive.

Well that sucks.Guess ill have to go with the m42 turbo kit which perpares the engine for boost from what i can tell.

http://www.vacmotorsports.com/cgi-bin/view_item.pl?item_id=646

Pretty basic for $2200 I just wonder how much boost i can push thru a fresh engine using this kit before hand.

Probbly 8lbs to 15lbs and make 200-250 hell maybe 300.No one really knows how much boost you can run thru these engine till they go heh.

I guess our engines are scrap compared to the older 4 bangers by bmw.

Funny how they made such high perf 4 cylinders back then and till the 318i rolled out all that stopped.

But maybe theres a company out there that actually mods these motors.Theres gotta be one id like to think that at least.

*Edit*
Also i bet theres someone on these very forums that has stroked one of these engines. If not on this forum then its probbly on another.Someone must have done this before :).

I was under the assumption that the bottom end of the m42 had all forged pistons/rods/crank...? sooo, what's the difference between that kit, and a stock rebuild kit? I suppose other than the head gasket, and the super strong arp head studs??

Search is your friend!

There are several strokers here on the boards, along with a few people running boost!

Search!!

i've got a stroker kit sitting in my room for a 2 liter. I just have to find a core to put it into...
unless of course you want to buy it.

i looked under what you said, and nothing shows up for a stroker kit, i don't get any engine parts listed. I checked under Canada, and Norway.

IMO, with no one exploring the limits of the stock M42 block running a proper turbo system, I think it would be premature to cough up more $ to beef up the bottom end, especially if you only intend to run moderate boost levels.
