Title: Power steering delete
Post by: AL GReeNeRy on April 25, 2007, 04:26:26 PM
theres a discussion over on e30tech about power steering, someone said simply cutting off your belt isnt the same as completely deleting your power steering.  the person who did the delete claimed even his wife drives the car and parks without problems, and that is on 325. our 318s should be easier.  i personally have driven without a ps belt and although its not as hard as parking an old suburban, i didnt like it. i believe the proper method was to reroute either the inlet or outlet hose ON the rack back to the rack, kind of like the TB bypass.  anyone done it or kknow EXACTLY how to do it?  and is it still easy to park?

I plan on doing this hopefully sometime soon. I have a 95 m3 rack begging to be installed :)

No I didn't, I can't afford anything right now >.<

+ Denis was telling me he didn't have to modify much to get everything on.

What difference will the Z3 rack make?
Don't mean to sound stupid but I've just bought a 318is and have no clue about upgrading cars, looking to get into it though.

yup stock e30s have about 4 turns lock to lock, m3 is like 3.x and z3 is 2.7 turns.

asubimmer let us know how the delete goes and how you cut and bypassed the hoses.  thanks.

For you guys wanting to swap the rack ...the '95 E36 M3 is the best rack to swap in .

While the z3 rack appears to have a less turns LTL this is a result of the z3 rack having LESS overall rack travell .

Which means you will get the same ratio but more travel with the '95 M3 rack .

Only if you can't source the 95 M3 rack should you opt for the Z3 rack .
And you'd want the non-M Z rack .

So what modifications are needed to fit the M3 rack?
