Title: Exhaust leak and stalling?
Post by: ///M42 on April 07, 2007, 03:36:44 PM
I am in pursuit of my own M42 and I have found a 318is w/ 150k for under $2k nearby that appears to need a little work.  The owner says that it has an exhaust leak either at the exhaust manifold or at the cat and that this causes stalling when the car first starts, besides making the car really loud, and then the stalling goes away after the car warms up.  Does this make sense, or is this a common issue?  I searched here and R3vLimited but didn't find anything.  Been looking for a 318is for a while and don't want a dog.  Any input would be appreciated before I drive 3+ hours to go look at it.

Thanks for helping a noob out:D

I can't imagine why an exhaust leak would cause the car to stall...

stalling could be a ICV (idle control valve) that is going bad..

Would the ICV only cause this at start-up and not after the car warms up?
