Post by: logger on April 06, 2007, 09:19:32 PM
I have just finished putting to gether a new / rebuilt motor and when I took off the valve cover and put it in my parts washer there is on the drivers side of the valve cover a rubber gasket that runs between two pieces of plastic , on the under neath side of the valve cover that expanded and went to shit . Now when it came time assembly my guy at local BMW was not able to find this does anyone know what this is ? Also my oil cap now leaks oil quite a bit and I do not know if this is conected to that gasket? .

Pretty sure it's the breather plate that got messed up from the cleaning. I would try to find a used cover and buy a new oil cap.
