hi:

I have a 318ti compact 1995. the http://www.realoem.com (VIN 12272) sey that my car has a   m42. but my custions is, how I can know the real engine in my car?, the engine name is marked in the hardware?. I have´nt the owner books and the legal document sey 1895 cc engine.

according to the site above your car came with M42 and in 1996 went to a
M44 in the USA.
