Post by: fryboy on October 26, 2018, 10:22:27 PM
hey guys I just bought my 318ic less than a month ago and sadly the head gasket is leaking now. its not bad to the point its overheating yet but it defentily is down on power and the engine has a combo of oil/antifreeze mix in it. what id like to know is if I go ahead and change the gasket on this engine which has 178k how well do you think it will be before it needs a bottom end repair or what have you due to the antifreeze mixing with the oil im sure that has cause a good deal of internal damage as Idk how long it had been driven that way before I discovered the problem recently.

My car has +220K miles has has the head rebuilt once, and then a new one installed and bottom end hasn't been touched. As long as proper maintenance is done and rings are not already leaking, I would say you can go plus 250K miles easy. 300K might be time for a bottom end rebuild.
