Title: Humming fuel pump pressure regulator
Post by: sopicki on May 13, 2018, 11:16:10 AM
Hi all,

Thought I'd share something I just learned for those with a similar problem.

My car started to hum a couple of years ago.  I was able to track this down to the fuel system as I could feel a definite vibration from just about any fuel line.  I immediately thought it was the generic AutoZone fuel pump that I had recently bought for it so I quickly sourced an OEM VDO pump with no change whatsoever.  (on a side note, when I removed that AutoZone pump I discovered that it too was a VDO pump!)

Nothing seemed to run badly so fixing the hum was not a real high priority, but by this spring I was starting to get annoyed by it so while ordering parts to track down some other problems I decided to replace the fuel pressure regulator.

Replacing the regulator is pretty easy and I replaced it with a BWD part from O'Reillys.  Totally fixed the humming and I think it idles a little better now too!

Just food for thought for those out there with musical cars!

Regards!
