I think this would be a hell of a car.

That thing is nice .
I want it bad but ....................
Wonder what the reserve is ?
That motor looks awfully tight in there...
-
Don't look! It gave me wood. Suppose they would swap for my 318is?
-
That is pretty much the exact same specs as my 2002tii minus the M42 motor. I do have a spare one and it has occured to me to swap it in but wouldn't be worth it as my tii motor puts out more power.
-
As much as I love tii's, the M42 is a much better motor in every way.
does your tii get 30mpg? :D

I was thinking the same thing about a trade ?????
If you had that would you trade for a 318IS , Don't think so....
oh yea , I also got a woody. Too bad I'm at work and not home with the little woman.
OH BABY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do agree and I'm contemplating on possibly throwing in a spare M42 into it. The m42 motor is obviously a newer motor with newer technology but given the fact that my Tii motor is 33yo motor with the same power levels, I think it's pretty impressive in it's own rights. The m42 is refined and does most things better but sometimes, the quirks of older motors are fun to put up with, just like with older cars.
I originally was going for a tii original resoration but if things change, I will definitely consider swapping in the M42.
-
I think it depends of the 2002's condition. If it is low miles - less than 50K - it should be restored to original. 50-100K is iffy depending on condition but not if it's a tii. Over 100K miles, go for the M42 even with a tii.
Of course, if you're in the zone, reason is irrelevant.

Funny how I was just discussing this with a buddy of mine. He's in the process of building an s2 and I was going to be his nemesis and attempt an m42 '02. All the readings to date seem to say this to be the hardest motor (within reason) from the e30 chassis to put into the 2002.
I think it's the best motor even if you have to custom fab. Some adorn the m42 with all the mod options however I think this would be wonderful.
Now - I just have to resist the urge to drive an 02 for a year and I'll be ok :p
-
wouldn't an S14 be better? aside from the fact it's more expensive

i think i remember reading an internet article on that car, and how much of a horridswap it was.
steering rack needs to be swapped for an e21 unit and some other stuff. im guessing sump clearance, and i think i remember someone mentioning hood clearance.
M42 2002, 2002iS, would still be one of my ultimate projects/cars. i'm sure its doable, well, anything is doable. even run it on twin webers to keep the old skool look. thatd help hood clearance too. haha.
So, 2002iS, with an m42b21, huge cams and carbs. turbo flares and deep 15s. Excuse me for a sec.

I wish i could find the page... But someone did detail the m42 2002 swap... It sounded like a ton of work... not to derail this thread... But has anyone ever seen daniel cooper's s14 powered 2002? Or the twin turbo 2002 that was in roundel a few months back? Oh jeepers!

btw I somehow have a feeling that this is a scam posting. Look at the sellers feedback, the amount of bids, and the amount of views.

i believe i've read that the 0-60 times the tii wins by a couple of tenths but get run down by the quarter mile. read it here somewhere if i recall correctly, but any ways.- a clean 2002 is something to surly appreciate!

You are correct mainly because the Tii has a broader torque curve so the 0-60times would be a bit less. That is with the factory 4spd and stock rear diff. I have 5spd and 3.91lsd conversion so it should be a bit quicker. ;)
