Title: 91 high pressure power steering line

Hi

So my car developed a pin hole in what I think is the pressure line from the pump to the rack.

 Is the $220 line from BMW the only option? Mine has a crazy coil of metal line at the rack. All the pictures I've looked at don't show that coil of hard line.

I just want to make sure I'm buying the right one.

I have three weeks left till my open first track day. Gotta get this fixed soon

I've seen some M42s with that coil and some without.

A more affordable solution is to take the old line to a hydraulic shop and have them fabricate a new line using your old fittings.

I'll bet you could get a hydraulic shop to replace the hose with higher-quality rubber & crimp new ferrules onto the original hard lines. If you have a hole in the hard lines instead of the rubber, they can often replace that as well, or have it brazed. The OEM lines often fail inside the crimps, allowing warm high pressure ATF to slowly ooze out along the joint.

I have seen a few cars with coils on the power steering lines. My '92 Cabrio was like that IIRC. I'm told it's designed like that to aid in cooling.
