I read in the latest issue of one of the BMW only mags that the CEO of BMW NA said the 1 series is comming but not in a hatchback version and it would be the size of the 2002 and the diesel engines are comming to the US also by 2008.

Anyone 3000lbs+ does not deserve to be called a "spiritual successor" of a 2002 or 318is. Not even the E36 318is is acceptable.

The whole idea behind these cars is balance and being nimble. Weight on a car is usually considered a ballast, making the car's movement cumbersome and delayed, thus ruining the a good driver's experience.

I think that is the N42 with the balance shafts. We don't/didn't get it in the US. It was engine of the year in 2001. We could take the 1 Series and shadowline the window trim and put 16's on it. LOL.

Id love to have a 135i, but the lack of an lsd and its excess weight are major turn offs.
