Hi there,
Im planning to convert my e30 Coupe 318i (M40) to an m42 engine. I currently have most of the ancillaries required Inc M42 motor, E30 M42 Engine harness etc. However I only have an E36 M42 Coil pack.
Is it possible to run this engine with this loom on the E36 coil pack, and If so how would I go about connecting it to the loom as the E36 Coil pack has 5 pins whereas the E30 Coil pack has 5 separate leads?
Kind Regards,
Cooper

Short answer is yes.
Most people go coil on plug though.
The e30 m42 harness has 4 connectors and 4 Leeds
The e36 m42 coil pack has 1 connector and 4 Leeds
You just have to google m42 coil on plug conversion for the 2 different wiring harness, and do a bit of reverse engineering.
Which inlet manifold and Dme are u using?

Ahh okay will do, thanks!
I have the e30 ECU and the e36 Manifold, just bypassing and disregarding the existence of the DISA valve. Engine thankfully does not have EWS.
Why do you ask?

For that you will probably need either a e30 inlet manifold or e36 Ecuador.
They need to match because the air flow and then fuel need to match.
It will still work but just not quite perfectly.
