Title: Direction of coolant flow in an E30 M42
Post by: dsm2002 on April 10, 2016, 04:49:02 AM
I wanted to map the direction of coolant flow in an E30 M42. In the mess under the intake thread, there is a diagram or two showing coolant hoses, but I could not find one that actually maps the direction. In this excellent website, http://bmw3series.johnavis.com/blog/651/m42-engine-e30/, there is also a diagram  shown below which has flow direction information but the size and resolution is not so clear. This site does says that "coolant flows vertically up and thru the engine block, thru the cylinder head to the compact vertical-flow radiator".

So based on this, here is my first attempt. I do not currently have a 318iS to check this against. I have not gone into the detail of the intake heater hoses and bits. Like who cares what originally there :)

Any corrections, feed back or comments?

OK Diagram has been updated to show correct hoses to the heater control valve. Hope this is all good now. :)
