Title: SOLD: '91 318is w/ M42 Stroker etc..
Post by: Warsteiner on March 02, 2016, 11:30:08 AM
Hey everyone,

Putting this out there to see if anyone has an interest. As some of you know the stroker engine build is quite extensive and was meant to be a reliable street motor,  not a race motor. It only has 2K mile on the build. Lots of cool mods. I'm looking for a serious buyer. The car is located in New Jersey at the shore. Price is negotiable and will be kept private if need be.

You can PM me with your email or phone number to discuss the car.

Cheers,
~Ralph

It is so.... :-\

I will always be able to build another car just like it if I want to. It's time to let someone enjoy driving it as I did designing it.

Cheers,
~Ralph

Any takers?

I'm curious to know what a stroker motor with and without the car is worth. I want to price it fairly and I think that I have for the people that have been interested, but just want to make sure so I'm looking to the group for some guidance.  The mods are all listed above in the post.

Please post with car, and without car. Also be specific as to what you're quoting i.e. Motor with trans, exhaust and MSII tuning. Or just plain motor and nothing else etc...

Thanks gruppe!!

Cheers,
~Ralph

The E30 market has me scratching my head. Last summer I bought two E30s in a package deal: one for $1250 and $750 for the second.

The $750 car was an '88 325i Bronzit, comfort seats, with plastic bumpers and was taken off-road by the PO when he failed to negotiate a corner. The damage consisted of a missing front valance, demolished radiator, broken headlight, grill, and crumpled corner of the hood and front fender. It had the usual battery induced rust in the rear quarter panel, the paint was a little faded with evidence of some respray, but was really pretty solid otherwise. The working odometer had over 200K miles.

I sold it four weeks later without laying a finger on it for $2000. The buyer was an acquaintance of mine and I sold him most of what he needed to get the car inspection ready. Neither one of us bothered to do a leakdown or compression test, so we have no idea what kind of condition the engine was in. Perhaps I'm out of touch, but I wouldn't have paid that much for it. In fact, I offered it to him for $2000 thinking we'd dicker on the price and I'd let it go for $1500 or thereabouts.

He put about $3000 into it and listed it on Craigslist for $6500: he let it go a week later for $6000.

I don't suppose this rambling drivel helps you much, but I wish you the best of luck. If you'd like to trade for a '13 Jeep Wrangler with an AEV front bumper, Warn Mopar winch and an extra set of wheels/tires, and some other stuff, let me know. :)

Thanks for getting back me keflaman.

Yeah I don't understand it either. With all this talk of everyone wanting a stroker and knowing what a basic one goes for from MM I'm kinda of baffled myself.

~Ralph

Ok Gruppe.....

I've decided to separate the motor from the car.

I'll be offering the motor in a few configurations:

* motor w/out intake and exhaust header
** motor with intake incl. airbox and exhaust header
*** motor with intake incl. airbox  and exhaust header & MSII with Tuning
**** motor with intake incl. airbox  and exhaust header & MSII with Tuning & LWF&Clutch
***** motor with intake incl. airbox and exhaust header & MSII with Tuning & LWF&Clutch & Metric Mechanic Tranny
Extras: E30M3 Exhaust w/ Supersprint muffler and custom downpipe to M3 exhaust

Let me know which one if you're interested. Serious enquiries only.

Cheers,
~Ralph

@ Nick_318is ....Aren't they though??!!!

Ok....Maybe some of you can chime in and put some prices to these upgrades to help me determine what this motor/car is worth along with some of the extras. I've had some interest but it seems that I'll need some help from the consensus of the gruppe with the pricing, that is if you're all willing to give your input. A big point to mention is that there is no core charge, so..... you can keep your current motor as well as getting a fresh built stroker!

Thanks in advance to those who will post their thoughts! I'd really like this motor/car to go to someone who will enjoy it for years to come.

If you don't feel comfortable posting it here, you're more than welcome to send me a private email. ralphangersbach at mac dot com

~Ralph

Thanks Dave!!

Happy New Year to everyone!!

There is a new owner.....Xmas was good to them from me! Not only did they get the motor but the whole car which had the Metric Mechanic Sport tranny and E30M3 4.10 diff and complete exhaust with a bunch more.

I'm not going anywhere just yet. I'm gonna hang around for awhile if that's ok with everyone....I may even build another one. Not sure. I have to put these S42 Slide Throttles on something ya know!!! 8)  I do have a bunch of other parts that need to go as well so I'll be posting some stuff for sale soon.

Wishing everyone an amazing 2021!!

~Ralph

Hey bmwman91,

I had the slide throttles custom made and they are 45mm. They are set up for 4 injectors but can be modified to accept 8 injectors. Basically a S42 set up.
