I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a group buy to get some performance headers made?
I have been working on an ITB kit (which is nearly finished and can be seen in this thread http://www.m42club.com/forum/index.php?topic=18442.0) which has shown some significant performance changes. I've wanted to make some tuned headers to compliment the intake but I don't have the resources to do it on my own. At this point the only way that I can see it being done is to organise a group buy to front the costs of the development - would anyone be interested in doing this with me?
Cheers

In but I have a e30 and yours is a e36.
Also what sizing are you considering?

would this be for left or right hand drive as i have just bought a 4 into 1 that won't fit my rhd car.

Rhd
Both myself and lambertius reside in Melbourne Australia.
However he has a e36 and I have a e30.
Where did you get your headers from? Why won't they fit. Steering column?

Rhd issues aside, what about making it a step-up style and starting off with the factory manifold, cutting 6" away from the flange and then tig larger pipe and so on. Just a thought, my Datsun headers started off at 1.5" then 1 5/" then 1 3/4" into a merge collector. Long-tube benefits with supposedly no loss in top end. Plus the flange and first bend would already be done for you. I would tig around the outside of the pipe at the flange so that you could grind the weld smooth on the inside. Just a thought, I've never designed a header.

item number 331701884336 on ebay.co.uk
they are from america and he posted to the uk for £40 so cost just over £100 delivered. shame it won't fit with the steering column

Hi Benz tech
This is a rhd e30 m42 exhaust manifold

I think I'll start from scratch. Lhd manifolds are really really good in comparison.
I have seen that on dirt bikes though interesting.
Designing a header all depends on cylinder volume and camshaft duration, desired peak rpm.
Hi jerseytim
I have seen those headers before there a copy of the supersprint that are used in America. Lhd
supersprints can't fit rhd and have never claimed too.

From the looks of it, rhd cars were an afterthought. I see why you're looking into making something better.

I haven't worked it out yet, but I would be designing for peak torque at 4500RPM, with a flat behaviour.

RHD, though I expect it should fit LHD as well since there will be no steering column obstructions. As for the differences between E30 and E36, I would have a chat to Brintech to see if a solution for both can be made. I expect that it could be made to fit both cars, but the rest of the exhaust will need to be modified/replaced in order to accommodate in one of the models.
I won't bother though unless I can get 5+ people keen to do it. It is a time consuming process to fabricate for Brintech so he is less keen to take on the risk than Rama was with the ITB kit.
