Title: e30 m42: oil pressure light comes out before starting engine...
Post by: selespeed on May 08, 2015, 08:00:17 PM
this is NEW to me and never happened before...

when turning key just before starting engine, the oil pressure light lights up. then crank the engine and seconds later this light goes off!
why does the light come on?

i changed filter a few days ago. i'm not sure if i should use a steel washer. and i think i accidentally dropped it in the oil filter center. should i be concerned? will it get sucked in?

teo

Isn't that supposed to happen? The light goes off once engine starts?

yes - ALL lights are supposed to come on before cranking engine. i forgot the sequence. this is because some lights are off. i found out that this is due to weak battery because the alternator isn't charging. have the alternator replaced with a 90A Bosch and it is back to normal
