Title: How Reliable is ''318is''
Post by: raivz on April 02, 2015, 05:32:50 PM
Question is how reliable is m42b18 with turbo. Can someone share some experience. How long it last's with 1bar pressure and stock engine.

Stock m42 is good for low boost applications. But your question of reliability is a good one.  Best way to tell is do a thorough compression/leak down test to check the health of your engine. The m42 crank is great and can handle a fair amount of power because its forged, the m44 is a different beast good for N/A but has its limits which are easily reached when going F/I.

My m42 is fully rebuilt and only 2000km on it after rebuild. My friend here in estonia turboed m40b18 and it's quick as hell. 1.5bar boost and stock engine. But i think the engine won't last  very long. I want to turbocharge my m42 but i want it to last very long :) my coal is beat 325 in 1/4 drag. And thats it. I dont want it to be like m3 :D
